Four decades of Innovation, Integrity, and Climate Impact.
We believe engineering must serve the planet. That is why we design robust, field-tested clean-tech systems that help industries, municipalities, and climate programs transition toward a low-carbon future.
Founded by the late Dr. B. C. Jain, BITS Pilani Gold medalist and MIT-trained technologist, we started by building biomass gasifiers that brought reliable power to rural communities.
Nearly four decades later, that idea drives our global mission to turn waste (MSW, agricultural residue, industrial waste, and sludge) into clean energy and carbon-negative solutions.
Powered by deep R&D, precision engineering, and a 250+ member team, Ankur Scientific is now a trusted name in waste-to-energy, gasification, biochar, and carbon technologies, delivering systems that make the planet cleaner, cooler, and more resilient.
From village-scale power to carbon-negative fuels β we haven't just promised change.
We have Engineered It.
We build technologies that Avoid Carbon,
Sequester Carbon and Process Wastes.
Our strength lies in our people and their relentless ability to innovate.
To make green, clean, and sustainable energy accessible and convenient for every community, at costs that enable widespread adoption and long-term impact.
To deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy and waste-to-value solutions worldwide, empowering industries and communities to thrive while protecting the planet.
Ankur Scientific was born from one powerful belief: waste should never be wasted.
In 1989, the trio Dr. B. C. Jain set out to convert agricultural residues into clean, reliable energy. What began as a small lab effort soon became one of India's most important renewable-energy breakthroughs. These early years saw the creation of India's first biogas gasifiers that enabled heat and dual-fuel power generation from agri-residues and woody biomass, and demonstrated that indigenous engineering could power villages and industries sustainably, long before "clean energy" became global vocabulary.
This decade marked Ankur Scientific's evolution from a national pioneer to a global clean-energy innovator. Gasification systems grew to 1000 kg/hr and delivered superior reliability, efficiency, and emissions performance. Our gas engine power plants became industry benchmarks, proving high-performance, low-emission waste-to-energy solutions could be made in India and trusted worldwide. Installations spread to over 30 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, carrying forward India's legacy of frugal, effective, and world-class engineering.
As the world accelerated toward renewable energy, Ankur doubled down on R&D. These years brought pioneering advancements: high-moisture lignite gasifiers, pyro-gasifiers, biochar generators, and dry scrubbing systems.
We introduced high-moisture biomass gasification and hot-air systems, raising efficiency standards across the sector. This R&D-driven era laid the foundation for next-gen technology, developed with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, an innovation that transformed fecal sludge into clean energy, water, and heat for developing nations. We became recognised as a deep-tech leader in sustainable resource recovery.
Entering its fourth decade, Ankur Scientific has become a leader in municipal solid waste gasification, carbon sequestration, biochar production, and ultra-clean syngas technologies.
Commercial MSW and sludge-to-energy installations across India and Bangladesh demonstrated that local waste can power cities affordably and cleanly. Cutting-edge innovations such as high-efficiency cyclones, mist eliminators, and tar-cracking systems reinforced our commitment to engineering excellence.
In 2024, we took a step in generating green hydrogen from biomass. Later in 2025, activated carbon from biochar completes the circular loopβturning waste streams into fuels, minerals, and high-value materials. This decade was guided by one promise: to engineer technologies that move the world closer to carbon neutrality, one waste stream at a time.
